Interview with Liane Little

When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I like to do a lot of different things. Spend time with friends and family, watch TV and movies, play games. Of course, life gets in the way, so work comes into play.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
I pretty much always find them by browsing the catalogue. I never know what I'm going to find. I like the hunt. It's a lot like wandering through a bookstore reading covers.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
I don't. I really wish I did. I'd love to get a chuckle about it now.
What is your writing process?
I change it up every time I start something new. Sometimes I handwrite some drafts, sometimes I only type. sometimes I outline, sometimes I don't. Sometimes each draft is a full re-write, sometimes it's just an edit. It all depends on the project and how much I'm driven to get the story on paper.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
I don't. I'm assuming it was the Berenstain Bears or Robert Munsch. They were my favourites when I was small. I devoured any Berenstain Bears book, but I loved The Mud Puddle, The Paper Bag Princess and I'll Love You Forever by Robert Munsch.
What are your three favorite books, and why?
Oh my... This is so hard. Sometimes it seems like I read everything I walk by and there's so many good ones.
1. Life Expectancy - Dean Koontz. I like how, regardless of the prophecy of 5 horrible, horrible days, the main character always meets everything head on with humor, albeit occasionally dark humour. Plus, almost everything relates to baked goods...
2. Harry Potter - JK Rowling. For me, its a perfect mix of reality and fantasy.
3. The Count of Monte Cristo - Alexandre Dumas. It's amazing what Edmond did to get justice/revenge for what was done to him. I also love the language back then.
What do you read for pleasure?
I try to read a mix but overall I tend to stick with supernatural, crime, teen, suspense/mystery, horror, with a good splash of chick lit.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
iPad. It's easy to use, portable, back lit, and the battery lasts forever. The main downside for me is the glare, but that can be fixed by certain screen protectors.
Describe your desk
An Apocalypse-type disaster zone with a coffee mug on top.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
To be honest, it goes back to my writing process and why I occasionally don't outline. The ending is just as much of a surprise for me as everyone else.
What are you working on next?
I have my fingers in a lot of different projects right now. Unfortunately this means that new books for fans are slow in coming. Don't worry though. They ARE coming...
Who are your favorite authors?
Dean Koontz, JK Rowling, Kathy Reichs, Steve Berry, Alexandre Dumas
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
I like to see what the day will bring. Sometimes it's good, sometimes it's not, but you never have the same day twice, right?
