Interview with Lidy Wilks

Published 2014-11-20.
What are you working on next?
A second poetry chapbook, "With My Little Eyes" and a full length poetry collection called "Triplicity." I'm also blogging a YA supernatural novel and a sword and sorcery novel.
Who are your favorite authors?
Louisa May Alcott for "Little Women" as it was the first book I've ever read and it's my book reading gateway drug. My other favorite authors are Ray Bradbury, Lois Lowry, Judy Blume and J.K. Rowling.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
When I'm not reading, my time is spent with my other addictions: watching Asian drama and Japanese animation, reading manga and manhwa.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Yes. The first story I ever wrote was when I was in the 3rd or 4th grade. It was about twin princesses who ran away from their gilded cages in search of adventure, end up running into twin princes who'd they marry. It later turned into a spin-off series where every generation of princesses born in their family would run away from home in search of something more.
What is your writing process?
I try to write as much as I can, even if it's just less than ten sentences. I often use my lunch hour or the time before bed when my children are asleep and the chores are done to squeeze in some writing. However, I've found that the best time to write are on the rare days I'm traveling to and from work using public transportation.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
As I've already mentioned, the first story I've ever read, was "Little Women." Although, I have to admit that I read "Moby Dick" around the same so as to which book came first, it's kind of like trying to figure out whether or not the chicken came first or the egg. However, what I do know is that "Little Women" had more of an impact on me because of Jo's passion for her sisters and vice versa and her love of writing. To this day, when anyone asks me about the first book I've ever read, I always mention "Little Women" first. Also, my youngest child's middle name is Laurence.
What do you read for pleasure?
My reading pleasure are mainly YA fantasy, followed by mysteries, thrillers, paranormal and supernatural and lastly literary fiction.
Describe your desk
Wood buried beneath papers and pens.
What's the story behind your latest book?
My latest book is a poetry chapbook, a short collection of poetry, like music and time, that portrays the pattern of movement of the human experience in scenic poetic snapshots.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
When my writing is found relevant and resonates with the reader.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I became an indie author because I see it as the next chapter of my life that's been put on hold for too long.
