Interview with Lina Crowe

Published 2013-12-24.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in Panama City, Florida but I always spent the summers with all my grandparents in Michigan and Ohio. I like to draw inspiration from the landscape and the weather in both places as the scenery for my stories.
When did you first start writing?
I have been writing ever since I can remember, but I didn't start writing seriously until I was in high school and continued on into college.
What's the story behind your latest book?
Wow. Haha Well, I started writing Hold On several summers ago. I can't even remember where the inspiration came from. I just felt like the story needed to be heard. I wrote it very quickly and then it sat on the shelf for years. While I was working on finishing Fighting Hearts, I decided that I wanted to get something out there for people to read so I dusted Hold On off and sat down and did some editing and voila! I have never been in the situation that the characters are in, but I wanted to challenge myself, and, man, did it send me on an emotional roller coaster.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I love telling stories and my friends and family would read my stuff and tell me that I need to get it published. My grandma pointed me to Smashwords and here I am!
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
Well, I haven't officially published yet so I'll have to get back on that.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Telling stories that come from the heart and living through the characters.
What do your fans mean to you?
They mean everything to me! Without them and their feedback, I wouldn't be the writer I am today.
What are you working on next?
I'm currently working on a series called The Hearts of Archirind about a stubborn princess and all the trouble she gets into. There's a little bit of romance and a little bit of action. It's very fun!
Who are your favorite authors?
Robin Jones Gunn, author of the Glenbrooke and Christy Miller series, among others, is my absolute favorite author! She has inspired me so much and I acknowledge her as the main reason I wanted to be a writer. I am also a huge fan of Chelsea Fine, author of The Archers of Avalon series! Her books are amazing!
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
When I finally get the urge to roll out of bed, I can't wait to jump on the computer or grab my notebook and work on a story!
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I love taking pictures! I'm going to school for photojournalism and taking pictures is one of my passions. I also love hiking and camping and one of my favorite things to do is go Geocaching with my friends!
