Interview with Lisa Clancey

What do you read for pleasure?
I read that nothing like my life. Paranormal, suspense, action, intrigue all mixing with a touch of romance.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
I have a kindle and a nook. I fell in love with my kindle and used it to death and now I have a nook.
Describe your desk
My desk is messy but I know exactly where everything is and jump on the people that try to move things around. Sometimes when I'm stuck I'll look over and see something and say, "Oh, yeah I forgot about that."
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in Alexandria, La in a house where we loved to kid each other. I have three sisters and a brother so there was always some drama going on. I'm next to the youngest so I learned not do what the others did and got in trouble for. I was sneakier. Louisiana has a culture all of it's own and I really didn't realize that until I moved away and now I can't wait to get back there.
When did you first start writing?
I only started writing three years ago when I read a mystery that was good but the ending made no since. The bad guy was the main characters best friend and would call him on the phone and threaten him. Now, the author didn't say the voice was disguised so I couldn't figure out why he didn't recognize his best friend. I thought I could write a better ending than that so I started writing.
What's the story behind your latest book?
My latest book that I'm writing is about Japanese internment camps. That's a time when people were harassed just for being born a different race. But the book really has more to do with dishonesty than racism. I try not to go there.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I wanted to publish with well known publishers and read up on it. I found out that publishers receive thousands of books a day and it was rare for an unknown person to get published so I thought what the heck. I'll try indie publishing.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
Smashwords has several different ways to get my book out there. It was easier and faster than doing it on my own.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
I love hearing readers say they love my book. Like most authors I put in hours and months on a book so I do a happy dance when I get a good review.
What do your fans mean to you?
I love that several readers have said they can't way for my next book so it makes me want to work faster and harder to get a good book out there.
What are you working on next?
My next Chloe book is about a Cartel in search for missing money and will do anything to get it back.
