Interview with Lisa Alexandra

When did you first start writing?
In 2008 I started writing my first book. Purely as a item on my bucket list. In 2011 I finally published my first book Putas of The Caribbean. In 2012 I started my transgender journey from male to female. For my assessment for surgery approval. I had to write a essay on my transgender issue. That inspired me to continue writing. The essay developed into the book " Becoming Lisa".
What's the story behind your latest book?
From the assessment essay I started documenting my journey transitioning. Documenting all the struggles and obstacles a transgender faces. Starting from the first time I released I was in the wrong body to one year post surgery.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
In the past transgender people were considered mentally ill. With growing understanding and acceptance. I wanted to help other transgender people; people struggling to be their true selves and to educate all about transgender-ism.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
With the wide range of distribution. Smashwords has allowed me to reach a larger audience.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
When you have inspiration to write and the words keep on flowing.
What do your fans mean to you?
They are the most important people. If it was not for them my book would have no meaning.
What are you working on next?
Possibly a follow up to "Becoming Lisa". I met a beautiful partner. Our love story is so unique, that it is worth writing about.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
Life! I love life.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I have a small service business that does occupy my time. I also belong to and Appreneur group that develops mobile apps.
What is your writing process?
When I get the inspiration to write. I take advantage of that. I can sit for hours writing.
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
Radio and newspaper interviews have been very effective in promoting my book.
