Interview with Lisa Frieden

Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in Southern California, surrounded on one side by chaparral and desert-dry mountains and by the ocean on the other, helping to mitigate the millions of people in the LA basin. The natural world factors prominently in my work as it has in my own psychology.
When did you first start writing?
I began telling stories to my younger sister and the three girls who lived next door. I then started writing stories down by the time I was in 4th grade.
What's the story behind your latest book?
The marijuana trade and environmental conflict currently taking place in Humboldt County, California.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
FREEDOM!!!
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
Not sure yet, because I'm just now posting to the Smashwords platform.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Creating people and experiences I can share with others.
What do your fans mean to you?
That I'm not alone and not simply howling to the wind.
What are you working on next?
Working title: "Finding Clarity", a thriller without much of a killer set in the redwoods and marijuana groves of Humboldt County, California
Who are your favorite authors?
Serious authors like Toni Morrison, Marilynne Robinson, David Mitchell, and romance novelists like Linda Howard and romance/vampire novelist Laurell K. Hamilton.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
Coffee - and the joy of being alive. So much better than the alternative!
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
With my family.
