Interview with Loren Naffziger

Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I am a life-long San Diego resident, which means there is a certain amount of laid-back Southern Californian in me. I started surfing when I was 13 years old and still find time on the beach as the most refreshing place to be in nature. The influence this has on my writing is I tend to be casual and relaxed about some of the things I do. The exception would be in ministering the gospel of Jesus Christ! My desire is to see people awaken to the love God has for them and to walk in relationship with the one who made them!
When did you first start writing?
I have enjoyed writing since I was in high school. It allows for an expression when things are difficult to say or should be concrete for others. Throughout my journey with Christ, I have found the need and passion for writing outlines and later more detailed presentations of key truths.

I am also a published author in academic journals and conference proceedings as an educator. The drive to write effectively is integral to my course development work as well. In the creation of courses as well as lessons, I want the navigation from point to point to be easy with the content is each area clear for the reader.
What's the story behind your latest book?
For over ten years, my wife and I were ministering to those with a drug, alcohol, or some kind of addiction. As we began, God begin to show me the basic truths every Christian needs to walk in victory over addiction or compulsive behaviors of any kind (e. g., gambling, pornography, overeating, etc.). The 12 principles in the book, "Restoration: Freedom from Addictions through Jesus Christ A Bible-Based 12-Principle Manual for Success" are fundamental discipleship truths for everyone. My wife has often said that everyone in a church can benefit from these truths.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I have always wanted to get this work into the hands of as many people as possible and the online environment is one that reaches the global community.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
To date, it is a start to the long relationship I envision for the work I am doing in both Christianity and academia.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
The greatest joy of writing for me is in producing a work that allows expression of my thoughts and feelings that may benefit someone else. Whether it is the current work or one to come, it is my desire to improve the life of the reader in some way.
What do your fans mean to you?
I don't know that I have any fans, but if I bless others and they choose to follow something I write for the betterment of their life I am blessed in return.
What are you working on next?
I have a couple of ideas right now, but my main focus will be on developing a work to integrate the Gifts of the Spirit with the Seven Mountains paradigm.
Who are your favorite authors?
Holy Spirit first and foremost, and then Joseph Prince, A. W. Tozer, George Runyan, C. S. Lewis, Rena Palloff, Bill Johnson, and others.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
The gift of each day, which is why we call it the present. I am inspired to be a part of my immediate family and a circle of friends who care about others.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I am an adjunct professor of education for three universities and owner of a small business that is designing online courses. More importantly, I am a husband to Paula, father to grown children, and grandfather!
