The Bad Place by Dean Koontz

My desk is somewhat neat but it does have a ton of papers on it. However, I do know what every piece
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up half in the south (Virginia) and half in the north (New York). I think it influences my writing because a lot of my characters have some of the southern characteristics about them with a bit of the New York attitude.
When did you first start writing?
I first started writing back in Junior High school with poems. That was my first attempt into writing.
What's the story behind your latest book?
The basic story behind my book is what happens when they way you treated people in the past turns out to have dire consequences in your future. In a nutshell, be careful of those you treat badly. You'll never know when they will turn up again.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I decided to become an indie author because it felt it better fit me. I know how hard it is for new authors to acquire agents, publishers and so forth, and, then the amount of money you need to put out is not something that fit my needs. With being an indie author, I can control my own product and what and when I put out my product.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
As of now, I will put my book on more platforms that I really wanted it to be on prior than I had it on like Barnes and Nobel. That way, more readers hopefully have the opportunity to read my work and enjoy it.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Being able to express myself and share my voice with others is my greatest joy of writing. I love being creative and using my imagination to tell stories.
What do your fans mean to you?
They mean a lot to me because they are the ones purchasing my book and sharing it with their friends. Without them, no one would read my book, so I am very appreciative of them all.
What are you working on next?
I am currently working on the next book in the series. It centers around a few characters from Cross Your Heart.
Who are your favorite authors?
My favorite authors are Sandra Brown, James Patterson, Francine Rivers, Nora Roberts and Dean Koontz.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
Knowing that day will be better and different than the one before.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I do have a full time job, so much of my time is at work.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
Either through recommendation or I will see if it interests me once I have read the book description.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
I can't remember exactly but it had something to do with a girl and her cat.
What is your writing process?
I generally write until whatever thought i had has been finished.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
I don't remember the story but I remember that i immediately fell in love with reading.
How do you approach cover design?
I had an idea in my head and basically relayed that information to a talented designer who did an amazing job.
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
The ads i placed on Facebook and the use of twitter have been very effective. Plus, word of mouth has helped tremendously.
What is your advice for future writers?
Just to be patient with yourself and don't put too much pressure on you. It will flow when it does and you can't force anything to happen before it's time.
