Interview with Lemuel Thomas

Published 2018-12-15.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I am a fitness trainer and a health coach so, most of my time is spent training clients in a fitness environment. I also take the time to talk with client about nutrition. When I am home I spend a lot of time helping my wife with the kids. We have 1 one that is 16 month old and another one is on the way.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
I don't really remember the first story that I wrote. I feel that I haven't wrote enough stories. I have thought of many ideas but all of them didn't make it to paper. I enjoy telling stories more than I do writing them. A few months ago I decided to start a podcast.
What is your writing process?
I have to be inspired to write. I don't usually use an outline, I just write or record myself talking to get my ideas on paper.
How do you approach cover design?
I am not very good at drawing so, I have explain my cover ideas to someone else. It would be a lot easier if I could draw a little. I can do many things but drawing just isn't one of them. I never really made time to perfect that skill.
What are your five favorite books, and why?
I love books on business. Here are my top 5 books.
The Bible - because it pretty much covers everything. There are so many different authors and styles.
Rich Dad Poor Dad - because it talks about a ton of business concepts.
Think and Grow Rich - because it is very inspirational .
Sour with your Strengths - because it has great insight on business and management
Hyper Sales Growth - because Jack Daly has great stories.
What do you read for pleasure?
I look to ready anything that is inspirational and motivating. I don't really like fiction books.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
I enjoy reading from a tablet or a laptop. I am not sure how people read books on a phone.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grow up in Baltimore, MD. I lived in Baltimore all my life until I married my wife. Now I live in Toronto for the past 4 years. I can't say that Baltimore influenced my writing. My clients were very influential in my writing because i would like to them, ask questions, and come up with ideas. I have even thought of ideas for clients to write.
When did you first start writing?
i started writing when I started my fitness business about 12 or 13 years ago. I started out by blogging and eventually my interest turned to books.
What's the story behind your latest book?
My latest book is actually the first book that I am publishing. It is called "Raising the Bar at 50 and Older: Fitness lessons to energize your Life."

I wrote this book to encourage people that are 50 and older to stay active and be fit. Some times when people turn 50 they think it's time to stop exercising but this is when it's most important.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
The greatest joy of writing is helping others with the information that I have learned. Just to think I can reach anyone in the world with an ebook is very exciting to me.
What are you working on next?
The next book will be a continuation of my first book.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
Helping clients live a healthy lifestyle is what motivates me each day. I love to see people reach their goals. It is also fun and exciting to meet and learn about different people.
