Interview with Morley Ashland

Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
It was a small sci-fi book called "The Lost Ship" and it really turned my imagination on as the story developed into some of the available endings.
I wanted more and... here I am doing it!
How do you approach cover design?
I make the covers myself for two reasons.
I didn’t found a designer with suitable imagination. Nevertheless they all presented me great covers when I asked. They just didn’t fit.
When I see the bookshelf, many designs overlap, with all trying to get your attention one way or the other.
The different one´s will be the chosen, in time.
Describe your desk
A real mess when working, all clean when done.
What are your five favorite books, and why?
Treasure Island
Moby Dick
Gulliver's Travels
The Book of Disquiet
Tales
All for the adventure feeling and the accomplished experience they provide
What do you read for pleasure?
Sci-Fi
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in a small village in Portugal.
I always stayed at home searching adventures on T.V., but unfortunately, Portugal is not proficient in playing science fiction stories (but you have plenty of soap-operas).
So I just grabbed a pen and paper and started imagining new and different worlds, and what I would do if I was there.
In time it became natural to imagine and quickly describing them almost as real. From there to place awesome characters and give them a role in your story is a pleasure that few grasp with needed intensity.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
An ordinary Android Pad
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
Talking and writting about the story
When did you first start writing?
Long time ago
What's the story behind your latest book?
Amarillyan is the origin and ultimate destiny of the Universe and life in it.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I wanted to share my best writings up to date.
More in the shelf to come, but I will not just throw them out to the world. They will be revised, enhanced and then published.
