Interview with Lynda McKinney Lambert

Published 2019-03-09.
What is your writing process?
My creative process is in clearly defined steps.
First - I become aware of non-verbal impulses - a sort of fluttering inside of me.
It is like a gentle sense of urgency that is something physical I begin to feel.

Second - I begin to order the space in which I work. I organize any clutter, sort through any put papers or items . I cannot work if there is disorder because it is a distraction.

Third - I begin to lay down a structure on which the poem, essay, or artwork will begin.

Fourth - I work back and forth between ADDING and SUBTRACT ING. I BUILD and I DESTROY.
It is a dance with materials - senses - images. I order chaos and find balance.

A pilgrimage is a religious journey. Pilgrimage has been an abiding theme in my writing for many years. My first book was inspired by my annual journeys to Salzburg, Austria, where I taught a drawing and writing course. I revised and expanded that book of poems, historical notes, and journal entries for this new book, which features writings, drawings, and photographs I created over four decades.

Pennsylvania artist and author Lynda M. Lambert invites readers into her world of profound sight loss to discover the nuances and beauty of a physical and spiritual world.
