Interview with Lyse Mai Lauren

What are your five favorite books, and why?
I love to read Biographies. Somehow the stories of 'real' peoples lives inspires and give me motivation and direction.
I think we all learn so much from listening to and reading about other peoples lives and how they handled themselves
in many different kinds of situations. Such things are a never ending source of interest and inspiration for me.
What is your writing process?
You know, for me, if it doesn't 'flow' then I don't write. Its really as simple as that. I find very often when I begin to write
that I just step into a completely different sort of space. The mind is not involved. If I am writing about things that happened in my past, once I kick into the process I find it is as if the same 'past' incidents are just unfolding before my mind's eye. It is said that
everything that has ever happened is 'imprinted' indelibly in the ether, so i guess when we really let go into that we enable ourselves to tap into an incredible and invaluable resource. That is certainly how it feels to me. I don't edit anything for at least 24 hours. I don't even look at it again for at least 24 hours. When I do come back to it it very often feels as though someone else wrote it.
Describe your desk
Clean and uncluttered...
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in New Zealand. My childhood was definitely pivotal in motivating me to take a very different life direction
than most people would have chosen. I quickly came to realize that life must be about so much more than the
many petty routines that we normally follow day after day and because of this I have pushed myself to do things
that help me to remain alert and alive...
When did you first start writing?
I began writing at a very early age. I always kept diaries. In the nineteen eighties I burned them all and kept just one or two.
After I came out of a long retreat I began to feel that it was time to share some of the wonder and the stories. That was when
i began my blog, Ever Here Now and began to write my books.
What's the story behind your latest book?
The latest book which is about to be Published is about 'Who Am I.' It brings together the most essential
instructions I have come across in my life through my teachers and the teachings. It really encapsulates everything that I feel is most important to know, before we go. I wanted to make this topic somehow
more accessible to ordinary people not so much through a mental understanding as a more direct understanding, through
stories and sharings that will hopefully touch peoples heart and give them a moment to 'pause.'
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I love the freedom. I have known a lot of freedom in my life and it is hard to let go of that. Publishing ones own
books online means, that everything you wanted to say is there, exactly as you intended it to be.
Also to find a traditional publisher is a headache. One needs a lot of stamina and patience to manage that.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
When it is really flowing, the writing takes one into a completely different space. It is almost like going
into a state of meditation and I feel completely happy and yes, there is also joy there...
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
There is so much to do and so little time to do it all in...
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I love to get out with friends and to go into natural surroundings. I love to walk and swim.
The simple pleasure in life give me the greatest joy.
