Interview with Anthony McNally

What is your writing process?
Just crack on with it, let it evolve.
How do you approach cover design?
I find the correct image for the book and then hand it over to the professionals to make it a knock out cover like 'Sons of Eirinn,'
What are your five favorite books, and why?
Chickenhawk - Robert Mason

Rumour of War - Philip Caputo

Only two on my list, they got me reading about the Vietnam War and motivated me to become a writer.
What do you read for pleasure?
Poetry and Sci-Fi.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
Kindle.
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
Social media, genuine friends and contacts not fake bought contacts.
Describe your desk
My special place where I move to another realm within my mind,
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in the beautiful Lake District in England, this scenery was very inspirational and therapeutic with helping me cope with PTSD and depression.
When did you first start writing?
I wrote a short story in school when I was 14, it was titled 'Two Wheeled Outlaws.' It contained violence, sex, drugs and motorbike gangs. My teacher was not impressed and said I had copied it and sent me to the headmaster for punishment. It was all my own work, but even at that tender age, I was light years away from my classmates. I hope my teacher if she is still alive had read about my successful writing career. To be fair it must have been a shock for her to read my story.
What's the story behind your latest book?
The New World Order of the post-NATO era, the GMA Global Military Alliance is the new policeman on the block. Two twin brothers, one a fanatically Catholic Republican Irish terrorist, one a former SAS soldier. Both trained killers on a bloody brutal collision course searching for an Iranian Super Explosive in War-torn Turkey.
Ex-Special Forces soldier Connor (Skid) Ryan is recruited as a ‘contractor’ by his former hated SAS officer to capture or kill Declan O’Malley a notorious Sons Of Eirinn bombmaker. With soldiers from the PKK Ryan has to execute a daring military operation, this time without his Special Forces comrades, before the terrorists can use the WMD on the streets of Britain. The worlds security services of China Russia USA and the UK are all desperately homing in to prevent another 9/11 atrocity on an even larger scale than the World Trade Centre. Can successful new partnerships really be forged between The Sons Of Eirinn and the Swords Of Islam to destroy the Zionists, Americans, and the English? Can western governments work together in the shadow world of military contracting? Can Connor Ryan really capture or even ‘kill’ his own brother? Can he achieve this vital mission even though he is suffering from PTSD? (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder?) Post NATO one thing that remained a constant, the need for anonymous men to do the bidding of those in power, the unspeakable acts of violence, deniable deeds of someone else's nightmare using the unsung heroes that oiled the dirty wheels of Governance, men like Special Forces soldier Connor Ryan and the shadow warriors.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
Control. Being my own boss, not having to be content with the mainstream publishers flicking you a grain of corn whilst they feasted on the harvest.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
Only joined yesterday, Time will tell.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Sharing my work.
What do your fans mean to you?
They give me a nice fuzzy feeling of warmth.
What are you working on next?
Book 2 in the Conner Ryan Series.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
I get out of bed each day for the servicemen that lost their lives in War.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Walking my dogs, watching Rugby League Barrow Raiders.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
Search on the internet and word of mouth.
What music do you listen too?
Punk and Indy,
Do you prefer a paperback or a e-book?
That all depends on the environment I am in when reading. Paperbacks are good for signing your name and giving as a gift.
