Interview with M.A. Courtney

What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
I have a Blog all about my books so there is where I start. I will provide questions or suggestions for my readers about the story lines and what they think. I usually try and post something once a week as marketing plus writing and interacting on social media takes a lot of time away from writing.
Describe your desk
That's a funny question. I have a laptop where I usually take it to my kitchen table and write. On occasion, I will go outside and write but I detest the bugs! and the little critters will also decide to visit when I am out there. So I prefer being at my kitchen table and the only annoyance are my two dogs. They must think that when I am writing thats play time for them.
When did you first start writing?
I began writing seriously in 2008 when I was let go from my job. It was a difficult time for many and I choose to try my hand at writing again. When I was a teenager I would write nonsensical stories about anything. I wish I had kept those stories.
What's the story behind your latest book?
The Invitation is about time travel into another dimension. I have always believed in quantum physics and thought it was possible. So I decided to put it to paper so to speak and create a fantasy love story adding some true life drama to it.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
Researching and reading about it. I will admit it's not easy and very time-consuming. The big publishing houses are geared toward trends and they come and go in cycles. I want to write about what I want to and not have a publisher tell me what to write.

So I am going this route first and test the waters.
What are you working on next?
I am thinking about writing in a different direction. About seniors in a community where a woman who practices witchcraft decides to live. It's still in the infant stages.
Who are your favorite authors?
I love Nora Roberts, Mauve Benchy, and Stephen King
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Going out, eating out, seeing a movie the usual things people do. Nothing special
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
I usually will go to my favorite authors first. Then if I am not interested in the book I will then peruse other authors works.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Yes, I do. The Pink Lady. I was a teenager and it was a sci-fi story. Gee I wish I had it now! it could have been a best seller.
What is your writing process?
I get some idea for a story then I will write an outline about it with names and where it takes place. Then once I have added the beginning and an end I start writing from there. I can't tell you how many times the story changes but I just go with it. Once I start to write it the words usually flow.
