Interview with Maddie Marcarelli

What are you working on next?
I am working on the second book in the series. I have finished it, but I am revising and editing it now. I'm excited to publish the second book! It should be out by the end of summer?
Who are your favorite authors?
J.K. Rowling, J.R.R. Tolkien, and C.S. Lewis are the authors I aspire to be like. Others are John Green (Paper Towns), Suzanne Collins (Hunger Games), Veronica Roth (Divergent), and Marcus Zusak (The Book Thief).
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
God inspires me to get out of bed. Why? Because I am his true and faithful follower. That's not to say that I've never failed, sinned, or rejected Him, but I am going Heaven because I am His daughter. And I hope that I never reject Him again; however I know I will sin until my very last minute on earth.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Reading... Hanging out with friends or family... Watching movies or television shows... Listening to music...
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
No but a few of the earlier stories that I wrote in my early childhood consisted of: A magic ring; A dog who saved the life of a girl who was sick at home when there was an earthquake; and a few others, which have to do with magical objects, or dogs.
What is your writing process?
I actually don't really have one. i usually just write and then rewrite when I feel like something needs to be edited.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
Harry Potter was one of the very first books I ever read, and throughout the years, as each book came out, I read them consistently. I've read the entire series all the way through at least 5 times. So, of course it had an impact on me. How? Well, it gives a great overview on friendship, overcoming struggles in life, and especially how to never give up.
How do you approach cover design?
I usually ask friends, who are more artistic than me, to do it.
What do you read for pleasure?
Young adult books or dystopian society type books, as well as books that are liked by friends or family, or have good ratings.
When did you first start writing?
Ever since I could pick up a pen I'd write stories. When I was 9, I wrote a 100 or so page book about a dog who saved a little girl from an earthquake.
