Interview with Magenta Phoenix

What motivated you to become an indie author?
I've always had a passion for writing. but what motivated me to become an author was my close relationship with my mother. she's always been my cheering section for my books and stories and she encouraged me to take a leap and get published. I first summited my first book in 2013 to a popular ebook publisher, but it was denied. a year later I met a indie author who introduced me to indie publishing. she was great enough to answer any questions I had and encouraged me as well.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Seeing the finished book. It makes me very happy when I see that finished book and knowing that I've created something like that.
What are you working on next?
I am working on the first book in a new series about gargoyles and a spunky, curvy woman that's too stubborn for her own good.
Who are your favorite authors?
S.E. Smith, Eve Langlais, Christine Feehan, Angela Castle, Felicity Heaton, and Kerrelyn Sparks.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I love to read. My nook is pretty much strapped to my hand when I'm not working on a manuscript. I also have a 3 year old german shepard puppy that keeps me busy.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
Most every book I've read, I've discovered by accident. I go through Amazon and Goodreads and type in a certain type of book I like and go from there.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Yes. When I was in middle school, we were asked to write a story evolving slavery and the civil war. I wrote a story of two enslaved sisters that get separated when they are sold to different masters. The story follows the older sister as she runs away to find her sister and escape their pursuing masters.
What is your writing process?
Once I have the basic story line bouncing around in my head, I write what I like to call a "S.O.E." S.O.E. (sequence of events) helps me write my books by mapping everything that happens in the book. Once that's done, my story usually flows from that point.
How do you approach cover design?
A friend suggested that I go through a graphic artist that she used. I now go through Melody Simmons at http://ebookindiecovers.com . She makes amazing covers and never disappoints.
What are your five favorite books, and why?
Hunter's Claim by S.E. Smith, Oceans of Fire by Christine Feehan, Claimed by a Demon King by Felicity Heaton, Bunny and the Bear by Eve Langlais, and Abducting Alice by Angela Castle. All these books are my favorites because they all involve strong men that will do anything to claim their women and stand by them. I love stories that follow the same ideal.
What do you read for pleasure?
I read mostly my favorite authors and anything else that catches my eye. I'm an obsessive romance novel junkie.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
NookColor
Describe your desk
My kitchen table or recliner.
When did you first start writing?
When I was in grade school.
What do your fans mean to you?
My fans mean so much to me and I enjoy hearing from every single one.
