Interview with Magnus Vagen

What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
The alarm clock. Well, that and a wierd sense of duty towards my classmates and colleages. I think I just want to get things done.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Oh my. Dancing, drawing, playing piano, the movie theatres, parties... There's a lot of things to do when not writing.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
I post random searches on websites that sell ebooks, and see if anything I might like pops up. I follow that up by sampling the book, and if I like it, I buy it.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Yes. It was about a military and spiritual relationship between the soldiers in china and dragons. It was a dead dragon that told the story. It was odd.
What is your writing process?
Sit down, write, eat, write, get distracted (facebook, youtube ect.), try and write but realise that all attempts are futile. Then I wait until the next day and repeat the process.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
I read my first book when I was 6, and I'm not sure wether it was Harry Potter or the lord of the rings. I don't think they impacted my too much, I just liked their stories.
How do you approach cover design?
Sit down, draw, cry, and think "that's good enough".
What are your five favorite books, and why?
The lord of the rings trilogy - so much stuff.
Game of thrones series - also much stuff.
Mistborn trilogy - excellent storytelling and engaging story.
The paladins series - very engaging series.
Inheritance series - loveable characters and cool magic system.
What do you read for pleasure?
Anything high fantasy, really. Either that or really funny teenage blogs, were they talk about how confused they are about the other gender ect.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
Ipad, haven't tried anything else.
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
Well, considering I haven't sold any books at the time I am writing this, I guess none that I've implemented are effective. Thank you 11 people who sampled it though. I love you!
Describe your desk
I write in bed.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
West-coast Norway. I don't think it influenced me too much. We're very international here.
When did you first start writing?
When I started in first grade. Writing my first book however, end of november 2013.
What's the story behind your latest book?
I grew sick while doing a musical. During the aftermath I was unable to attend dance classes for a while, and so, I started writing. Writing was awarding in itself, so I continued.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I just wanted to get my work out there, and being indie is the fastest and most effective way to do that.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
The peace. Usually when you get home you sit down and watch some tv, or play videogames, which is all well and good, but so noisy. When you're writing there's quiet, and that is delicious.
What do your fans mean to you?
When I get some I'll get back tot hat question.
What are you working on next?
The next book in the Aní series. When I'm done with that, maybe I'll write a manual on how to popp (as in the popping dance stile).
