Interview with Lakisha Hinnant

Published 2017-07-06.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I love to read! I do it all the time. I figured it was time for me to see if all this reading that I've done over the years had actually taught me anything.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
The greatest joy for me is the fact that someone else will have the opportunity to see inside of me. My thoughts, it's scary, but exciting at the same time.
What do your fans mean to you?
Well, I don't really have any fans yet as I'm just starting this, but I would imagine, the fans mean everything. Without the fans I wouldn't want to do this anymore. So I hope I eventually gain some!!
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
I love the fact that Smashwords allows me to be able to distribute my content without too much hassle. I hope to be able to make a go at this writing thing, and if I do, I will always remember that Smashwords was first.
What are you working on next?
Well, I've recently started a novel. My first try was a short story, and I think I did a pretty good job, but I want to write my first novel and that's what I'm going to be working on in the near future.
Who are your favorite authors?
Karen Kingsbury, Robyn Carr, Gina Robinson, Maya Banks, Lora Leigh. Just to name a few. LOL!!
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
My children! They are the reason I do everything that I do,
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
With my family. I'm also going to school, so I spend a lot of time doing school work or my paying job. But when I can, I spend lots of time just reading.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
I actually find all of my books on Goodreads. I just look around and see what looks good or what my favorite authors have out and I go from there.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Actually, I do. The first story I wrote was a mini auto-biography for my 10th grade English class.
What do you read for pleasure?
I love romance story. The sappier the better.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
I don't really have a favorite. I use Kindle, just as much as I use Play books on my computer.
