Interview with Mandy Jacob

Published 2017-02-02.
Who are your favorite authors?
Since we are talking children's books, I have to say that my favorite author growing up was by far Roald Dahl.
What are you working on next?
Moses's Glorious Staff and my favorite, just in time for Easter - The Cursed Tree.

The quest of the Glorious staff blasts you into battles, plagues and life defying odds. But through it all the Staff and his Master, Moses stand firm in their faith and deliver the Hebrews from one trial after another. Read the eyewitness account of the Staff that was instrumental to Parting the Red Sea and clutch to the fact that you too can encounter him, his Creator and the same biblical adventures as they all unravel within our world today.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
My life! I am so abundantly blessed! I have a house full of boys, even my dog is a male. So the morning testosterone is enough to rocket boost me out of bed. Who needs coffee? The fumes of their energy is the equivalent to a few shots of espresso.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
Now days it is so easy because once you show a certain genre you are after, electronics suggests the rest.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Oh that's easy. I was in English class, third grade. ;)
What is your writing process?
My writing is truly inspired by my Creator. Without Him, none of these books would have come to fruition.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
There were lots of books before this one but the book I'm about to mention definitely was the most influential one. Charlie and the Chocolate factory transported me into the world of the imagination and after that, there really was no stopping me.
What do you read for pleasure?
Funnily enough, I never read Fiction. My most influential book is the bible. After that books for me need to encompass some form of self-improvement. Lord knows, I have a long way to go!
What is your e-reading device of choice?
I'm old fashioned. I still like to hold a book in my hand and smell those pages.
Describe your desk
A mess! Colored post it notes all over the computer screen. Always a cup of tea on my left hand side, most of the time it is empty though. And then let's not forget a pile of books sitting under my "to do" list.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in Johannesburg, South Africa. It has given me a serious side of viewing life, poverty, famine, abuse and violence. Yet, all of it can be turned around and used for the Glory of God!
