Interview with Mark Niewland

Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in Hamilton and I like involve what I have experienced or seen in my poetry or writing.
When did you first start writing?
As a child and gradually over time have commited to putting pen to paper.
What's the story behind your latest book?
It is about what happens when 2 different species come together as friends when there own members decide to not include them or short change what they are capable of.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I like to tell stories and gather people attention and inspire them by what I have put down on paper.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
It has given me the opportunity to allow my story to be viewed by many different people and in various formats.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
To inspire people and to share my story with other people.
What do your fans mean to you?
They help to encourage to keep writing
What are you working on next?
A story about a distant future on the planet earth when a Gas Guzzling and Electric Powered robot named Alex is deemed obsolete and told to relocate to the Planet Mercury.
Who are your favorite authors?
Robert Louis Stevenson, Robert Munsch, and C.S. Lewis.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
To go out into my community and make a difference in peoples' lives any way I can.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I post videos onto youtube, come up with new poetry and writing ideas, socializing with other people, using Facebook to chat and connect with people I know.

What is your writing process?
Think about what I want to write, jot down ideas, type what I have in rough format, edit, and then create a finished document.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
Not really but the writing kept my attention.
How do you approach cover design?
I try to think about what is the design I would like to see and attempt to create it to the best of my ability.
What are your five favorite books, and why?
Bible, Case For Christ, Treasure Island, Catcher in The Rye, I love you Forever. The reason is because they are writen in such a way I can picture myself in the story and the storyline flows smoothly but at a very good pace. As well some of the books are non-fiction and I learn something from it that has impacted me and inspired me to want to change.
What do you read for pleasure?
The Bible, comics, newpaper articles.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
Cell Phone

Word of mouth and publishing through Smashwords

I have writen for children, adults, and older adults. As well my writing is meant for any religious or ethnic background.
