Interview with Tori Mansfield

Published 2014-07-11.
What is your writing process?
A long walk with my iPod playing normally gives me a chance to clear my head and sparks inspiration from the most mundane things I observe on the way.
Describe your desk
My desk has several empty bags of crisps on it, my phone and a lunch box full of loom bands.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in Middlesbrough. I am usually influenced by people I meet and the funny situations they manage to get themselves into! Most of my characters are part me, part other people that I know.
What's the story behind your latest book?
I enjoy reading a good friendship to romance book, which is primarily the style that I write in. Along with a few swear words and crude references along the way.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
The possibilities for my characters are endless, and I adore creating characters from a vague idea and bringing them completely to life through my book.
What do your fans mean to you?
I don't have any fans! But if they are reading; Hello to you!
What are you working on next?
I have a lot of stories in the pipeline, but I am dipping my toe in the water with my first novel to see if the world of Smashwords is ready for me!
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
My first story had something to do with Boyzone- it was terrible.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I like to eat crisps.
What do you read for pleasure?
I like to trawl the advice threads on Digital Spy. I find it very therapeutic.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
The fact that my bills need paying, so my meagre wage packet inspires me to throw the covers off each morning to face the public at work.
How do you approach cover design?
I like to include something food-like on it.
