What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
Allowing potential customers to read my books for free for a few days is when I have had the most sales thus far.
Describe your desk
Haha, I love my desk actually, it's black granite or should I say granite looking and I keep it pretty tidy.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up partly in Belgium and Burundi and also lived in Germany for a little while. Neither of these are my parents' country of origin by the way. Anyway, I remember my dad's home office being filled with books from top to bottom and it fascinated me. You probably won't believe this but if my memory serves me well I think I started reading LE CONTE DES MILLES ET UNE NUITS (The Tale of The Arabian Nights) when I was about 6-7 years old!!! And I thoroughly enjoyed it. Then I read it seriously again in my early teens, I always had a book on my bedside table, back in the days it was mostly romance novels and I just thought as a matter of fact that I would be a writer when I grew up. I am surprised that I have not written a single romance novel yet actually.
When did you first start writing?
I only took up writing seriously when I was in my late thirties. Life got in the way I guess.....
What's the story behind your latest book?
Beauty for Ashes is sort of the climax of my voyage of discovery, spiritual awakening /enlightenment. It's about me finally figuring out that I will only truly make it and be happy, at peace and fulfilled if I follow my passion and share it with others through my writing.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I became an Indie author because I could not find a publisher who wanted to publish poetry. So I went the Indie route and discoveted that I would get between 30% and 70% in royalties depending on the platform as opposed to only 10% from mainstream publishers. Recently I have found some publishers but you have to pay a certain amount of money up front....The Indie way is free so here we are....
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
I literally lose myself in my writing, especially when I write poetry. It's difficult to describe the sheer liberation and elation I experience when I write poems, to me it's almost magical.
What do your fans mean to you?
The world, just for buying my books and not only sharing my work but also understanding some of what I feel when I write. That I get to share it with them is simply amazing.
What are you working on next?
Another chapbook, of non religious poems this time, for the first time ever. Thus far all my poems, and I have written about seventy, are spiritual /religious. This time they are just inspirational/spiritual but not religious. I am not sure about the title yet but I am almost done. Still have at least three poems to write and this could take anywhere from just a couple of days to weeks, depending on my mood....
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
My love for life in general. Wanting to better myself everyday and besides I still have a few goals I intend to achieve and a legacy to leave....
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Reading, listening to music....
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
Sometimes I'll just browse the Kindle store. Most of the time though I already know which book I am looking for. Usually in the field of personal development or an inspiring autobiography. Either because someone told me about it, or I heard about it on TV.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Yes I do but I am sure it was crap and pretty personal so I won't talk about it....
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
Yes when I was six or seven I read LE CONTE DES MILLES ET UNE NUITS (Arabian Nights) and I remember being mesmerised by this fantasy world. It's only when I read it again as a teenager though that I really got to enjoy it. And I have been losing myself in the world of books ever since.
What are your five favorite books, and why?
The ones mentioned in my bio: Think and Grow Rich, As a Man Thinketh, The Master Key System and The Science of Getting Rich. These books teach us about life and the best way to approach it, from within so we can all live in a better world. It's a shame not more people read them and apply these principles to their lives....We would all live in a perfect world.... The fifth is my book actually, the chapbook I am currently working on....watch this space.....
If you have ever wondered about retraining your brain, refocusing your thought pattern/mind to maximise your potential by being more focused on what you want to achieve and determined to get there; this book will teach you the basic steps...
Beauty for Ashes is Marie-Aurore's latest chapbook, a poetic journey of enlightenment /awakening. If you enjoy reading poetry as much as the author loves writing it you will absolutely love her ten inspirational, spiritual poems. Happy reading...
