Interview with Marion Griffiths, M.A (Ed)

Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in Shropshire, England. At school there was a fabulous oak panelled library which had stunning views of the countryside. This provided a tranquil atmosphere to read, enjoy and appreciate books. I imagined that one day there would be a book of mine in it! Nearby, there was a ruined castle which inspired me to invent plays and stories.
When did you first start writing?
I first stared writing very simple stories when I was at primary school. It was a great way to escape by creating an imaginary world.
What's the story behind your latest book?
My latest book ' Study Skills for 11-18 year olds. A Guide to Success' builds on the concepts in my previous book 'Study Skills and Dyslexia in the Secondary School: A Practical Approach,' by taking a wider look at study skills and including the latest techquies.

After seeing so many students struggle and stressed at school, I was motivated to do something about it. Furthermore, I want all students to enjoy their lives to the full. I am convinced that by providing successful, effective strategies for all students to sail through their exams and school work, they will have more time available to explore and excel with their own interests. It is so important that students enjoy themselves during this phase in their lives!
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
Smashwords has widened my audience and increased my internet pressence which I did not previously have.
What do your fans mean to you?
It's still relatively early days regarding my book, so I have not really had any feedback. I just hope my book has has been useful to those who have downloaded it!
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I wanted to reach students throughout the world in order to make their lives' easier and of course being an indie author has allowed me to this.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
One of the greatest joys of writing apart from seeing my book in print is that hoping that my book will prove to be useful to the young students it is intended. If it takes the trials and tribulations out of studying, then all the work and effort that has gone into it, will have been worthwhile.
What are you working on next?
My next book is a complete contrast from this self -help educational book. That's all I'm prepared to say at the moment. So watch this space!
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
The smell of ground coffee first thing in the morning gets an immediate reaction from me. I just have get up and drink it!

When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
When I'm not writing, I'm living my life! Two days are never the same. However, at the back of my mind as I undertake the most mundane tasks, I'll be mulling over in my mind my latest wriitng projects.
How do you approach cover design?
Initially, I looked at the key information that needed to be on the book cover and experimented with fonts. I wanted a strong colour and chose red.
