Interview with Mark Richard Masters

When did you first start writing?
I started at a young age. No, not 2 or 3, but close. I was about 6 and I wrote and sketched my own comic book, and I have been writing on and off since then.
What's the story behind your latest book?
Most of what I have published so far is electronic Chapbooks, or short stories. But I have been working on a Medieval Style Fantasy that will make novel length.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I tried the traditional route. I even had someone that liked my work send it to a friend that worked for one of the BIG publishing houses. Nothing worked out so I figured on trying to go it alone, and maybe one day draw some attention. Then I'd revisit the idea.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
Smashwords has been a great place to get my works out, though I would prefer better sales and downloads. But it has also been a great conversational piece.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
My greatest joy in writing is to get the story from my head and heart out there. Of course I like it when people tell me that they like my work. Who wouldn't? But I would write even without those comments.
What do your fans mean to you?
To tell you the truth, I don't have very many fans. Maybe 2 or 3. But I am happy for those that I do have. They are very special.
What are you working on next?
I am working on about 3 things right now. A novel, a couple LONG stories, and a couple electronic chapbooks are in the fire as well.
Who are your favorite authors?
I would have to say Anne McCaffrey, Robert Asprin, Piers Anthony, and Stephen King.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
My family of course.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I love to read (comics and books), play video games, and watch movies.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
Either the name jumps out at me, I am interested in the genre of the ebook, or I find it in a subject search.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
The first story I ever wrote was a sci-fi Buck Rogers, Battlestar Galactica type story that I even sketched out. I would show it to you, but I misplaced it a long time ago.
