Interview with M Mckie

Published 2013-10-31.
What's the story behind your latest book?
I am a bit of a coward when it comes to horror books and movies. So I wanted to write a soft Horror mixed with a Romance that would creep you out, but still warm you back up in the end. So the Ghost at 1 Cheshill Lane is a great Romance story for Halloween.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I live in the Caribbean and I love to write. I found that I spent so much time looking for an agent and/or publisher that all my writing time was slipping away. So I decided to concentrate on what I love to do, which is writing. In the process of writing and publishing on my own, if I meet the right agent or publisher we can talk but right now, this outlet gives me the most realistic chance to get my work to the public and get reviewed, so that I can improve my craft.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
I am very new to Smashwords so I am still waiting on the success part but the fact that there is a platform like this for authors, makes writing worthwhile.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
A few years ago writing was just my dream but now it’s a goal with a deadline. I have dedicated myself to getting these stories out of me which brings me joy. The fact that I can work independently also brings a great feeling of accomplishment.
What are you working on next?
I published Lightning Fire: The Blue Moons’ Calling, a few months ago and I am working on the second book in the series - A New World order.
I love the characters in Lighting Fire, a paranormal romance fantasy fiction because I get to mix sex and action with humor. In the second book you’ll see Luna come into her own where her powers are concerned and you’ll see new characters who keep you on the edge of each page. At the end of this book I get to answer the question, what do you get when you mix a fairy, a werewolf and a vampire? The answer will take you to the third book of the series.
After I complete this series, I am going to tackle Caribbean Folklore and give it a much deserved voice among all that is creepy.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
My daughter, just two words and it explain so much.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I've decided to work on a blog that reviews book. I think that authors work hard and I will love to help out another author by giving them a review. You can find me at Wordpress (http://marshagomes.wordpress.com/) and BookLikes.( http://mgomesmckie.booklikes.com )
