Interview with Marilynn Farmer

How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
Smashwords is a great way to get exposure through many venues (e-retailers) at once. It's fairly easy to use and I like having my own author page right on Smashwords.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Being able to create another reality with words. It's very interesting to be able to take people to another place and/or time and take them on a journey.
What do your fans mean to you?
They are the readers of my work, and therefore one of the most important reasons I write! Their kind words and enthusiasm are often the things that keep me going.
Who are your favorite authors?
I have many, but this is what I'm reading right now: Neil Gaiman, Amy Tan, Veronica Roth, Stieg Larsson, Helen Fielding.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
My family and my writing, and the fact that I feel like I've been giving a second chance at life after beating stage 3 breast cancer.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
I usually buy books from authors I know, but sometimes I take a chance on a new author. It's always a wonderful surprise to discover a book that I love from someone I've never read before.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
No, but I remember writing a story in 4th grade about a haunted house. It was four pages long and took me HOURS to write. I was so proud of it.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
My iPad or Kindle, though I do read old-fashioned books, too (there's something wonderfully satisfying about physically turning that page...).
