Interview with Mary Nicholson

When did you first start writing?
When I was ten I started writing my first book, which I never finished. However, I still have what I wrote.
What's the story behind your latest book?
My latest book is about a couple in their thirties who escape a more hectic life to live in the country. Of course they have marital issues and supernatural forces to contend with. It's my Halloween special.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I love to write and thought it'd be super cool if people actually liked my writing. I did try to get Exterium published the traditional way, but I never found anyone interested in the book.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
Well, I have sold a few books and have some followers, which is success to me. It means out of millions of books for readers to choose from a handful actually like what I write! I also have received a lot of success under my pen name - pussona pelona.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Expressing my feelings. I love it when I totally slip into my work and feel every bump and thrill along the way.
What do your fans mean to you?
My fans rock. I may not have many, but they are the best!
What are you working on next?
I'm working on book 2 of Mastering Mia (published under my pen name). I separated it out because I felt uncomfortable with people I know seeing that I also write erotica, but no point in hiding it any more.
Who are your favorite authors?
Stephen King, Michener, Joyce.I love all the classics. I am not as keen on modern works, but I did like Harry Potter.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Exercising, reading, working, forcing kids to do homework,
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Yes! Actually I wrote a story about a shark attack and read it out loud to the class. This was back in 1982. The kids were hooked and I felt so good, but then the teacher told me the story was not any different from the first draft I had handed in so it was pointless. That really hurt!
What is your writing process?
I don't force it. I get an idea, think about it and go. I don't even know the full story as I write. I just let it flow.
