Interview with Matti Vuento

What is your writing process?
Writing non-fiction involves a substantial amount of research. Depending on the project, I may spend weeks reading before writing a single line. And when I am set up to write, I constantly come back to check some detail. The stories of my children's books often reflect true life, things that happened or could have happened. So my memories and the stories my mother told me play a role.
How do you approach cover design?
I leave cover design to professionals.
What do you read for pleasure?
Detective stories. Henning Mankell and Stieg Larsson, to mention just two.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
So far I have only used iPAd.
What are you working on next?
I am considering writing another Thomas, Grandpa and Mayday the Dog-book. Like the previous ones, it will be a nature book for children.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
Every day is potentially a good day for writing.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I like a stroll in the nature, usually with a camera. Mayday, my wheaten terrier roams happily along.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
I check net net pages of ebook retailers.
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
I am heavily dependent on social media. In fact, it is the only marketing channel available to me at the present time.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in Northern Finland. My interest in nature derives to a great deal from those years.
