Interview with Max Chang

When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
illustrating or reading or sometimes working on material for stand=up comedy. Comedy is a big interest of mine.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
i think it was goosebumps back then, i really loved those books even though they were slow paced but they were more fun than scary.
How do you approach cover design?
i like to design it myself by making a mood board and then conceptualizing my ideas in different styles and themes then i make it in illustrator and once i'm finished i send it to a professional to fix any errors.
What's the story behind your latest book?
the concept originates from a friend of mine who is an escort. she would tell me the most awkward things her clients would request from her such as spanking them or feeding them their own... well you get the picture. Anyways, i started thinking how funny it would be as a self-help book to teach others how to navigate through these weird experiences but to actually seduce someone instead.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Making people laugh. I love how my ideas and wacky humor has made people laugh and really help cheer them up. That's a great feeling.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
i grew up in a small town called Omagh, it is very desolate but friendly. I think growing up there made me have a lot of strong morals and also shaped my personality to enjoy the smaller things in life.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I was inspired to write my book because a friend of mine works as an escort and she use to tell me the most awkward and funniest stories with her job. So one night i had an idea and starting writing the art of seduction in awkward scenarios as a parody to common self-help books.
What do your fans mean to you?
I like the feeling of knowing that something i have made will give people a lot of pleasure and make them laugh (I hope anyways). Humor is one of the most important elements to a personality.
What are you working on next?
I'm planning my next book to be based on funny travel stories as many of my friends have traveled and told me all kinds of mad things.
Who are your favorite authors?
surprisingly ernest hemingway and clive barker.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
to work so i don't lose my job haha
