Interview with Melissa Stern

Describe your desk
My Desk? Well my desk is pretty small. It fits my laptop and notebook comfortable. I have to have my notebook. I scribble ideas and characters down in it before I even start writing. If I didn't have that to look back on I don't know what I would do. The chair that came with my desk was really uncomfortable so I had to get a new one that's low and padded. Come on who can write if they are in a comfy place.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in Jacksonville Florida in a part of town called Arlington. My mom, sister and I lived in a 3 bedroom condo with our dog Muffy. We didn't have a whole lot of money so reading was our outlet. I actually couldn't read very well until 5th grade when they had me take an extra class. I had a great teacher and have loved reading ever since.
When did you first start writing?
I first started writing in 5th grade. I actually found an old notebook a few weeks ago. I started reading it and I think I laughed through 90% of it. I was very "creative". In 8th grade we were required to write a lot of essays so I think it just blossomed from there.
What's the story behind your latest book?
The book I'm finishing now is called Trusting The Beast. Its a werewolf romance of course. Its about a girl named Harmony who thinks that she is the only one who is cursed. She meets a boy and things get interesting. Not R rated interesting but fun. You should read it.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
Smashwords has made it possible for me to publish my books and get them out there for the world to see.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
The greatest joy of writing is seeing my characters come to life and to know that my readers can feel what they feel.
What do your fans mean to you?
My fans are everything. Without them who would read my books? Who would provide feedback? Who would I be doing all this for?
