Interview with Michael French

Published 2014-09-23.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
Southern Ontario, Canada born and raised. Originally from the Napanee area. I have lived literally from coast to coast in this country, but I am back, now in London, Ontario.
Influences? That's a good one....not much in the way of poetry really, more Sci-Fi than anything else......
so maybe there is an influence there....
There is not much of the way of the supernatural in what I write....even the unexplained stuff is what we ourselves are made of.
I write about that quite a bit.
When did you first start writing?
Just in 2013......at least on a regular basis. You can blame social media which gave me an instant audience and feedback....
I have found that crucial.
What's the story behind your latest book?
Really just a random collection of the more than three hundred pieces I have churned out in the last fifteen months...
It is almost a daily thing...
I have a couple more books ready to go and will be following up in coming months.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
Seeing other people do it....David Gayle Wright has been an inspiration. I bought his book online and thought...maybe I can do that too.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
We'll see if it does.....
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I don't spend it exactly..I have a full time technology job...I fix stuff...like the computers that make this system run..
and networks.
It is very literal work...very exact....
probably the reason I like to break away with poetry.
What is your writing process?
Yeah, sure...wish I knew.
I just can't get comfortable at night unless I find something to say.
That can involve reading online or social media and a small group I have found.....
we get into good discussions
What do you read for pleasure?
Pretty much anything I can get my hands on.....
What is your e-reading device of choice?
I use my laptop for most of it
