Interview with Marjorie Harder

What do you read for pleasure?
I love to read fiction books about the Amish people.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
I usually just read from my Android phone.
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
Facebook is a great place to market, especially if you create a fan page about what you are writing about.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in Southern Ontario, Canada. I grew up on a farm, I loved working with family on the farm. That is my dream to live on a farm again, so I decided I wanted to write books to help me accomplish this.
When did you first start writing?
I first started writing when my husband, daughter and I moved back from Alberta. We had been living in Alberta for almost 6 years and then my mom passed away and my dad was left alone. Having problems with different things in his life we decided to come back to Ontario to live with him and take care of him. When we had been living here almost a year, my dad started having more problems with his memory. Since then he had been diagnosed with Dementia. That started me searching and in turn wanted to write about it. He was also getting a lot of spam problems with his emails and phone calls, that also took me to searching for help and ideas and decided to write about that too.
What's the story behind your latest book?
My dad was having problems with people calling and asking for donations of all sorts and that made me a bit mad. I continued to research things and that is why I wrote the book "A Seniors Guide to Money Scams and Frauds", it sure opened my eyes.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
The best thing about writing for me is that I can give insight to others who maybe live with or love a senior who is going through, money scam problems and or dementia.
What are you working on next?
The next book I want to write I think is going to children's books. I have a passion for kids. I have 6 grandchildren and love each one, I also love to read to them, so I would love to create my own books to read to them. These books will be keepsakes for any child.
Who are your favorite authors?
I have a few favorite authors: Jack Canfield, Charles Dickens, Agatha Christie, C.S. Lewis, Mary Pope Osborne, Napoleon Hill, Robert Munsch and Wallace D. Waddles. There are more just can't think of more right now.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
I am inspired by my hard working husband and 14 year old daughter, knowing that each one of us are just staring to write books, and truly enjoy it.

I have done a lot of research about dementia and have found some great help in caring for him. When we found out about my dad it was a bit of a shock, but realizing that by the symptoms he was showing, it helped us to understand him and what he was going through better. I have decided that I wanted to share this with other caregivers and those that are living with this disease.
