I search Smashwords and other sites

It was a Western. I was about ten years old. I showed it to a few friends and my teacher. I was a celeb in my school for a while, but then I tore it up and burned it. The book that is - not the school! I wish I had kept that story. I wish I had written other stories like it that would never have been good enough to be published. But being a bully was much more fun. And guess who ended up getting repeatedly kicked and feeling sorry for himself?

I write a few lines of random dialogue, add a few vaguely defined characters that just wander around for a while. I have a few smokes and beers, then see what happens. Sometimes it all comes together and sometimes it's a complete waste of time. I'm not the kind of writer who can sit down and bang out 10,000 words a day. Lack of concentration is my weakness.

I like to do my own covers. I buy images from Canstock and work with them. It's quite easy to design a good cover at a very low cost, even for a print book.

I have found Twitter and Facebook to be useful marketing tools, but you have to be careful not to get so caught up in these social media things that you have no time left to do any actual writing. When I have a new book in paperback, I contact my local newspapers, bookshops and library.

I published "Bad Faith" on Smashwords, having been rejected by many traditional publishers. It hasn't set the world alight so far, but I have had several FIVE STAR reviews. Smashwords has also played a large part in my becoming known as a writer of erotica. Smashwords has made it easy for me to distribute my work to retailers such as Apple, Barnes & Noble and Kobo. If it wasn't for Smashwords, I don't know if I would even still be writing.

I grew up in Ireland, at a time when sex was still a dirty word and the Catholic church was the only government that mattered. My erotic writing pushes boundaries and my non-erotic work is extremely satirical, so I would say that everything I write is infused with a kind of anger and a need to both offend and to be loved.

I've memorized the great reviews for BAD FAITH like a prayer. If I have only a couple of fans or thousands, I hope I never let them down. Being appreciated is what makes it all worthwhile. I have only two words for my fans. THANK YOU!

Because I can. That's the beauty of imagination. I go there with my readers. We share a brief glimpse into a world of strange and taboo desires, then carry on with whatever we were doing before. It's smutty escapism. When it comes to writing, I believe you should always push the boundaries. Never censor yourself.
