Interview with Miriam Gaudin

Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in St. Martinville, Louisiana. Being from the south is all I know, so I tend to write my books from outside of Louisiana. Sitting by the water will spark up a writing session for me, just being one with God's beauty.
When did you first start writing?
I first started writing when I was younger. It started out as a part of my therapy but in 2010, after quite a few essays I had to do for college it sparked the interest in writing. It was because of a professor that encouraged me to write. After months of her saying I should write a book, I finally did and that is how Daddy and Me, Mommy and me was created.
What's the story behind your latest book?
I will give you rest was based off of a sermon I heard. So many times we become so bogged down and tired with everything life can throw at us, we get overwhelmed. The main scripture that came up through that sermon spoke volumes. Matthew 11:28. There are so many people in this world dealing with sickness, loss, abuse you name it they are going through it. I wanted to write I Will Give You Rest as a sort of testament as to say, I know what your going through and I know it's not easy. But lean on the Lord and HE will give you the true rest that we all desire.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
The main thing that motivated me to become an indie author, was the fact that all other publishing companies wanted an extreme amount of money from me BEFORE they would publish my books. I researched and found Smashwords and was overjoyed by how I can publish my work for free!
What are you working on next?
The next book I am working on is another Children's book. It is somewhat like A Day in the Life of Lucy, however, this one will have pictures of my own dog. My dog will tell his story and what I as his owner sees with my own eyes every day. It will make you laugh!
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
This is actually a tough question. I guess my inspiration to get out of bed is the fact that I will be graduating in a year and by graduating I am proving not only myself but doctors and bullies from my childhood that I am going to make it and WILL graduate!
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
When I am not writing I spend my time studying, going to church, keeping myself busy. For the last 3 years my time is spent in school studying. Sometimes at night I will watch TV if I am not too tired from school and studying.
What is your writing process?
My writing process is simple actually. I free right and then I go over it again to make it make sense. Then I follow the style guide to get it ready to publish.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
My e-reading device of choice I would say it is my Kindle. The Kindle goes where ever I go.
Describe your desk
My desk, has a lamp and my laptop and my school books and papers with my camera.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
Smashwords has contributed to my success just by making it easier for me to publish my books for free. The staff is helpful and emails me back right away, which means the quicker they answer my question the quicker I can fix what is wrong and get the books out to the premium distribution stores.
