Interview with Winston Crutchfield

How do you discover the ebooks you read?
I look for books by authors I'm already familiar with. I like reading series fiction, and settings that I'm familiar with from other media.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
The first story I ever wrote was a blatant imitation of Frank Peretti's "This Present Darkness". The only remaining copy is buried in the scrapbooks my mother assembled, and there it shall remain for the good of all mankind.
What is your writing process?
I have a very visual process. I tend to write stories as if I were watching them on a motion picture screen. If the story is complex, I'll create an outline first so I can keep things straight. Otherwise, I take the initial idea, combine it with my chosen characters, and set things in motion. Hopefully, I can keep the plot on a logical progression.
What do you read for pleasure?
I love comic books, and have an extensive collection. I read the Mack Bolan series of men's adventure novels every month. My old favorites come out on an irregular basis to be enjoyed again. Lately I've been reading biographies. Most of my library is sci-fi and fantasy, mystery and adventure.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
I bought a Kobo tablet when Borders introduced the Cruz. I eventually traded up for an iPad, but Kobo is still my reading app of choice. I also read a lot of books on my phone.
Who are your favorite authors?
How to pick my favorite authors.... a quick list of authors whose books I've read multiple times or make a point of acquiring: Jim Butcher, Phil Elmore, JRR Tolkien, CS Lewis, Anne McCaffery, Margaret Weis, Tracy Hickman, Robert Heinlein, Isaac Asimov, Arthur Conan Doyle, Edgar Rice Burroughs.
