How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
Smashwords has given me entrance to the ebook world. Now I am able to offer ebooks for almost any reader and provide another venue for my buyers to access my books.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
I get a thrill knowing that I am providing answers to important questions, and making resources available to people that have a real need. Loss of a job can be a major life crisis, and having a resource that provides hope, encouragement, and spiritual renewal coupled with cutting edge resources and answers gives readers a boost. Knowing that people are receiving that kind of assistance from the material I provide is a source of encouragement to me. When readers catch a glimpse of the fact that God is working on their behalf in their job search from my books, I can think of anything more exciting to an author.
What are you working on next?
6 Biblical Secrets for an Effective Job Search is the first in a series of job search books. My next edition (which is almost ready for release) is the College Edition, then a Military Edition, and a Legal Offender Edition. Each of these will provide the basic information, and then targeted information specific to each audience for their unique job search needs.

In addition to these I also have couple of devotionals on the burner:
* A Devotional for Job Seekers; Words of hope, encouragement, and insight for those on a job search journey
* Walking in the Light; an interactive devotional for daily guidance and encouragement

Then there is another book I have started a couple of years ago, itis a practical book for keeping love alive entitled 365 Ways to Say "I love you."
Who are your favorite authors?
I read a lot so there are a ton of them. I have read all or almost all of the works of:
* John Grisham
* James Patterson
* Brad Thor
* Vince Flynn
* Patricia Cornwall
* Clive Cussler
* Steve Berry
* Dale Brown
* Lee Child
* Tom Clancy
* Faye Kellerman
* Brad Meltzer
* Stephen Hunter
* Perri O'Shaugnessy
* Michael Palmer
* Philip Margolin
* Sara Paretsky
* Steve Martini
* Robin Cook
...and many more.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
The opportunity to write. I just love writing, and knowing that books touch peoples lives, help them heal of traumatic events, and provide comfort and insight into areas where they have needs.

To be able to make the same kind of contribution a doctor does on the physical well-being of a patient, except this is on the emotions and psyche of the reader.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I am a trainer and I present workshops to assist organizations in developing checklists to help improve safety, productivity, and quality.

I also design, develop, and deliver customized training programs tailored to the culture, needs, and objectives of organizations.

When I am not doing those things, my wife and I like to hike, photograph lighthouses, read, and work on our home.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
By looking for books by favorite authors (I have over 100 authors I follow), and books recommended by others.
How do you approach cover design?
I work with cover design professionals. I may have a concept in mind, but then I leave it up to the professional to make suggestions. The thing about designing covers is it's not just the photo or graphic you use. You also need to take into account color, font style and size, and how to mix it all in so it is both pleasing to the eye and communicates a message in a glance.
What are your five favorite books, and why?
Here are at least my top, even if I don't come up with five:
* Dedication and Leadership by Douglas Hyde; a comparison of the commitment and call for action between communism and the Christian church.
* Teaching as a Subversive Activity by Weingartner and Postman; a challenge to teachers to make their teaching relevant by focusing on teaching students how to be "crap detectors" (that is how to think) instead of memorizing facts so quickly outdated.
* The Fortune at the Bottom of the Pyramid by C.K. Prahalad; a study of the challenges of those in the bottom 30% of the worlds poorest peoples and how corporations could contribute to improving their plight.
* The World is Flat by Thomas Friedman; an examination of the events that have occurred in the 21st century that have contributed to leveling so many hierarchies in the world.
* In Search of Excellence by Tom Peters; a study of what leading corporations are doing that have opened new doors of opportunity and quality for their customers.
What do you read for pleasure?
Novels by the authors listed previously.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
I use a Kindle and love it. I can take 1000 books with me anywhere...how cool is that!
When did you first start writing?
I have had to consider this same question in other interviews I have done, and as I have reflected on the answer find that I have been writing most of my adult life. It was the discovery of words and the ability to tie them together into a string that reaches out to engage the reader, and links my can with their can to communicate with them.

The vast majority of my writing has been to encourage, inspire, bring hope, and insight to others.
What's the story behind your latest book?
6 Biblical Secrets for an Effective Job Search came about as a result of working with a Christian client, a pastor actually, that was changing jobs. Toward the end of our typical job search program, after covering all of the basics of personal assessments, resumes, marketing, interviewing, negotiation, etc., I realized I was working with an individual whose faith was important to him. He made decision on the basis of his faith and tried to walk it on a daily basis, and we had done nothing to link his job search and his faith.

I asked him what he thought of the idea, and he thought it was great. At that point I was just speculating, because I wasn't sure what I would be able to find that would enable me to do that. I also wanted it to be solidly biblically based since the Bible is a true source of guidance to Christians, and I had no idea if the Bible said anything about a job search.

I started doing research and found that the Bible was full of guidance regarding a job search. It doesn't come out and state principles of searching for a job, or making a career change, but almost every leader the Bible talks about made a job or career change, and it provides guidance for us on how they did that and how God was involved. I was amazed!

I was able to narrow the focus down to two primary Bible characters; Joseph of coat-of-many-colors fame in the Old Testament, and the apostle Paul in the New Testament. 6 Biblical Secrets examines their lives as God worked in, through,and around them to bring about a job change in their lives and we learn principles and practices from them that are just as relevant today.

An example of one of these principles is found in Joseph's life in Genesis 41:14. Joseph had been in prison and the king of Egypt was now asking him to come and interview for a job (how he got that opportunity is described in detail in the 6 Biblical Keys... book). Verse 14 states, "So Pharaoh sent for Joseph, and he was quickly brought from the dungeon. When he had shaved and changed his clothes, he came before Pharoah." Why put that little detail in the narrative of Genesis 41? It helps us understand how important it was for Joseph to show respect and deference when he went before the king, and we learn how important it is for us to consider our dress, hygiene, et al when we are going for interviews as well.

This is just one example of literally hundreds of tips, principles, and strategies the Bible provides for all aspects of our job search in today's society.
