Interview with Mira J. Ross

Published 2015-02-05.
What is your writing process?
I watch people, investigate communities, and in some cases, I become the character I want to write about. Then I brainstorm and start writing!
How do you approach cover design?
My covers usually give hints to the overall theme of my story.
What do you read for pleasure?
Yes, often...
What is your e-reading device of choice?
Nook
Describe your desk
Neatly organized
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
A small southern town in Metro Atlanta, Georgia. This influenced my writing greatly because there wasn't much to do around there, so I had to use my imagination. On the most boring days, is when my most creative characters and story ideas were born.
When did you first start writing?
I was in my twenties when I started writing seriously.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
Knowing the fact that I had control over what I wrote, when I wrote it, and HOW I wrote it. That's all that matters. Too many stipulations stifles my creativity.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
Smashwords has helped me, and my daughter to publish and be recognized as independent authors. I appreciate Smashwords for giving me a chance.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Hmm, my greatest joy?
That would have to be conceiving an idea and a few characters and creating a story that entertains not only my readers, but also myself.
What do your fans mean to you?
Everything...
