Interview with Mitch Bensel

When did you first start writing?
I started writing when I was a young one around seven years old. The neighborhood kids would gather at night and we would all take turns telling scary stories, mine was always the scariest.
What's the story behind your latest book?
Time of Death The Story of Jared is based on real events in a level one trauma emergency room. The romance that develops between a tech and a nurse has complications with spiritual interference. The two each have gifts of healing and each have a job to do. They not only battle the normal questions of does he /she love me, they battle spirits that attack them and test them on a constant.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I wrote a book that was wanted by a group of people to help teach them. I self published it and that was the start of a whole new ball of wax
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
I am hoping to get the smash word world down well, I will be putting a lot of books on here and Smashwords gets the word out, literally to the people. I have not heard anything negative about this group and feel they are honest with their sales information.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Creating something full of emotions and compassion that others will feel in the safety of their home. I love the writing process and get caught up and also upset with some of my characters. Always a moral or lesson in my book and good always defeats evil. This world needs some good news and reading a positive book, albeit full of angst, they witness the defeat of troubles and the conclusion of love.
What do your fans mean to you?
Everything? Sounds a little strange but they are carrying the stories on into their hearts and to their neighbors and friends. Enjoying the adventure, feeling the passion exposing your own fears all in the privacy of your home is a gift to them. And they are my gift for taking the time to read a ramble from Mitch
What are you working on next?
A coffee table poetry book. A compilation of all the poetry I can find that I have written over the years. Also starting a murder mystery, well I have a few started. She Said Hello, Dead Man's Phone and Alexander. Also working on my new children's series, Adventures of Danny and Jenny. Fraternal twins brother and sister that have adventures that teach them a lesson in life. Many new writings on the way.
Who are your favorite authors?
Dean Koontz was but the last one I read disappointed. Kurt Vonnegut is rather awesome and my writings have been compared to his, so that is a plus!
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
God.. we all have a purpose here in this life, so find it and help others
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Love metal detecting and the Oregon coast. Seeing my grandkids and working on a book with the one grandson, he is a great writer. I love movies so I watch a lot of movies and spend time talking to God. Just casual screams for help : ) He is always there for us.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
I don't read ebooks :: should I say that in this ebook land? lol
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Co wrote a story with my mother when I was nine years old. Was a vampire story and scared me too much to finish working on it with her. The last I remember was the coffin was slowly opening and someone was stuck in the room and couldn't get out!
What is your writing process?
I see the movie in my mind and I write the story. The characters get out of hand a bit too often and at times I have literally stopped writing because I disliked them so much. I write until finished with the movie in my mind and then send to editor.
How do you approach cover design?
Attempted to make my own and failed miserably so I seek out professionals on that.
Describe your desk
An antique round wooden kitchen table that looks out over open fields and my bed, plopped up with pillows at my back, a movie on in the background and typing away.
