Interview with Destiny Cammack

What motivated you to become an author?
I never saw myself as an author, I just wrote for myself, I wrote a couple of poems for family and close friends but I never thought to publish my poems until I shared my poems with a coworker, who said that my words had the power to help change lives. That statement motivated me to become a author , helping someone.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
If i didn't discover Smashwords I probably would have never published the book due to mere cost. They are giving a platform to express myself so their contribution is key to my success.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
The release and the escape when I write I can express myself without filter, I can be weak, strong, emotional and totally confused and it's perfectly okay when I am writing and that;s why I enjoy it so much.
What do your fans mean to you?
I don;t have fans , I consider anyone who appreciated my work family, I respect them, I care for them and I want them to read my work with an understanding that in my sharing my stories in hopes to make their lives better and to let them know that they are not alone.
What are you working on next?
I am working next on a collection of journal entries and poems called " Voices in the Darkness", which actually describe my fight with depression and how finishing my first book "This is Me' helped the healing process but how I felt during the depression and my fight back to the light.
Who are your favorite authors?
Maya Angelou is my absolute favorite author, I like Terry McMillan , Langston Hughes, Edgar Allan Poe
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
Life inspires me because it's the greatest show ever, not knowing how the day will end, what or who you will encounter inspires me the adventure that is waiting for me on a daily basis
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
When I am not writing, I am somewhere coaching, speaking , reading, shopping or handing with my family
What is your writing process?
My writing process is weird, its like I walk around with the words in my head all day , bits and pieces and then when I get to my computer I just write, it doesn't always make since but I work from that to create beautiful poems.
When did you first start writing?
I first started writing when I was in the eighth grade after my mother passed away , writing became the way I death with my grief and from there my poems became therapy for me, something I used to deal with the issues that I was going through
What's the story behind your latest book?
I don't think there is a story , the book is truly about me and my journey from childhood to adulthood. How I death with relationships, family, faith and my own self .
