Interview with Nancy Welker

What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
For me, the greatest joy of writing is that my content can be helpful to women who have struggled with weight and body image issues for years.
This is just the start of my series, and by the end of 2014 I will have at least two more titles published that continue the theme of making easy lifestyle changes that bring about visible results.
Publishing here has been an excellent experience, and that certainly adds to the positive feeling. I love working on my own and Smashwords is the perfect place for me to do just that.
As far as I'm concerned, I'll always be writing about fitness, skin care and motivation for women. There's always something new to address; something fresh on the horizon. It's a great field and I'm happy to be part of it.
What do your fans mean to you?
The feedback I get from women is absolutely priceless.
I published my first eBook here at Smashwords in July of 2012, but my online work goes back to April of 2008. In the six total years that I've been writing articles and blog posts I've received a large amount of positive comments, and helped many women to take that first important step toward having a healthier body.
What are you working on next?
Book Two in my series. The title is still in the works, but the main theme will be how to begin or add to an enjoyable and effective Yoga practice.
I place a strong emphasis on what is easy to keep in your life every single day, and so my instruction in Book Two will go along with that idea.
Each of my books will work together with the last one, so the next book will refer back to Book One to a degree.
Who are your favorite authors?
Jane Austen. James Herriot. Agatha Christie. Charles Dickens.
I love the classics and the classic style of writing a good story that drives home a deeper message. It doesn't have to be a serious message every time (Jane as an example had a fine sense of humor) but I like to read between the lines and get to the heart of what's really being said.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I practice Yoga - which I absolutely love - I read a great deal, research all kinds of topics for my work, play word games using an app, and I go to the beach as much as I possibly can.
Recently, I've taken up the cello, which is a true labor of love.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
I simply browse through the lists. Sometimes I'm looking for something in particular, such as a whodunnit, but most of the time I just wait for a title to jump out at me.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
My son, Corbin. He's a 21-year-old autistic young man and I've been home teaching him since he was 4 1/2 - nearly 17 years now.

Additionally, I have become something of a rebel with a cause. And that cause is re-initiating a career in modeling, bringing more substance to it this time.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Of course. I was 7 years old. It was actually a television commercial for toothpaste but it was technically a story!
What is your writing process?
1. Research the subject thoroughly. And in the case of my eBook series here at Smashwords, that also meant schooling.
2. Use my own experience. I make a list of everything I've done that applies.
3. Create a title that inspires me.
4. Begin with chapter one.
5. Write and edit every day until I'm done.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
Little Women would be the first full-length book I ever read and it was in the 4th grade. Before that I used my school reader and shorter length children's books.
Little Women's characters, Meg was always my favorite, were so alive and rich in detail that I felt that I came to know every one of them. I have since read that book many times and seen the movie versions as well. It's an experience I will always cherish.
How do you approach cover design?
After trying this on my own and not being happy with the results, I did an internet search for an eBook cover artist. He is very good and I'm happy with my cover!
