Interview with Raymond James Hancock

Published 2013-12-30.
Who are your favorite authors?
Exciting times are ahead! Within the next 24 moths I expect my new Sci-Fi series to hit the shelves! Watch for it!
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
God has a plan for every single life. In my life he has placed me where I am for reasons I realize and some I do not. I get up every day because God said concern your self with today and allow tomorrow to take care of itself.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
With my children and/or friends :)
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
Here on Smashwords as well as Kobo, Amazon and a few free ebook resources.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
I do and I'm none to proud of it. I wrote a 2 page short story about a space alien that has "relations" wink-wink with girls I liked in my neighborhood!
What is your writing process?
Write. Writer's write. If your not writing then your not a writer. Don't worry about punctuation, grammar, spacing, format, JUST WRITE. Then when you have some material go back and start refining.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
Bible stories. And it made me not want to piss off God LOL It wasn't until many-many years later that I learned that God is much more than an angry all powerful dude, but you still don't want to piss him off :)
How do you approach cover design?
With emotion! Let's face it whether it's a good thing or not covers sell books so I approach a cover with feelings. I want people who see the cover to get some kind of emotional response that makes them want to start reading my book.
What are your five favorite books, and why?
Uh...I only get to pick 5 !? <-- Oh look double punctuation an editor somewhere just died just like when you say you don't believe in faeries! The Perelandra trilogy by C.S. Lewis and many Xanth novels. I like the Perelandra trilogy because of the careful look at ancient evil and how to truly fight it. I like the Xanth novels for pure reading candy :)
What do you read for pleasure?
Not much. I invest my time in many things and have little time for reading.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
Android phone or tablet.
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
I have exhausted all free sources of book marketing, press release kits, my own website, social media, etc. can't say I've seen a whole lot of success from any of them.
Describe your desk
Organized chaos with gory bits of laughter.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in the northwest and it did not influence my writing much at all.
When did you first start writing?
When I was 10 years old, short stories and then poems.
