Interview with Neelie Oliver

What do you read for pleasure?
Mostly young adult fiction and new adult fiction. I also invade the manga section of Books-A-Million a lot. I also read all sorts of news articles and have read a couple of autobiographies.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I am from Soddy Daisy, Tennessee. It is a small but tight-knit town that is a suburb of Chattanooga, TN. It has heavily influenced my writing, as it has beautiful scenery.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I had an English professor in college tell me that I would never be a writer. I want to prove her wrong.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Listening to music, watching Star Trek: The Next Generation or The Weather Channel, or reading something to help myself become a better writer. A teacher of mine once said, "The more you read, the better you write." And I love reading.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
Usually by looking at the recommendations (or the "customers also bought") from the e-books I read on my Kindle Fire.
What is your writing process?
Write down tidbits of ideas and then go from there. It can take me anywhere from a day to quite a while to finish a chapter.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Getting the story done. And then on to the next one!
