Interview with Jason Mcgregor

Published 2018-01-16.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I love hanging out with my Daughters, my God-Daughter and my nephew. My Daughters are getting older now so it's almost like my wife and I have two roommates in the house with us. We had them early enough in life to allow us to relate to what they go through on a daily basis. Definitely makes for some fun times.

I read a lot as well. My guilty pleasure is reading zombie books!
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
Primarily through suggested titles offered by websites or just by a good ol fashion internet search. I value the reviews of others so I spend a good deal of time reading the reviews.

Youtube is big as well. I watch inspirational videos often and the speakers in the videos will sometimes suggest books that they've read. I find that to be quite helpful.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
I do. I was about 7 years old when I wrote a short story about a truck driver who went all over the United States to pick up food. He then drove to Africa (yes, "drove" to Africa) to deliver the food to everyone that needed it. The best part ways, my parents didn't tell me I couldn't drive to another continent. They told me it was a great story.
What is your writing process?
Well, considering I just completed my first small book, I don't know if I have a process yet. For my first book, I kept a pad and pen with me at all times. Ideas were constantly firing off in my head so I would right everything down as soon as I had the thought. There are so many things in life that are begging for our attention so it's very easy to lose a thought.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
The first story I ever read was "Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing". I was fascinated by it. I started reading it and couldn't put it down. Also, at a young age, I was so proud of myself for reading a book that had so many pages in it. That book and the feeling it gave me showed me that content is the most important aspect of writing. You don't need fancy covers or big words, you just need a good story.
How do you approach cover design?
I like to touch on two worlds. The front cover is an animated depiction of my wife and I. The back cover shows a part of us in our true form. I like to blend the two (animated and reality)
What are your five favorite books, and why?
The Power of Now
The Four Agreements
Ask and it is Given
Angels and Demons
Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing

Each of these books had an impact on my development as a person in their own unique way
What do you read for pleasure?
Easy one.....Zombie books. I feel like the main characters in just about every zombie book I've read has their "will" tested to the limit. I love that. I love a good challenge.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
My Kindle Fire. My phone is too small and my laptop is too big
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
Facebook aka Word of Mouth. If I can get every person to just tell one other person, I can generate the buzz I'm looking for.

Also, group discussions are huge. Anything to get other people involved.
Describe your desk
Very clean. Haha! I only like to focus on one thing at a time. Because of that, I only want one thing on my desk at a time. It doesn't benefit me to have a bunch of things on my desk because I can only focus on one. Everything else is just a distraction
