Interview with T. Michael

When did you first start writing?
I've been writing poetry and stories in various forms since about age 6, but I "got serious" about producing marketable work in my twenties, after graduating from college.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
I used to write picture books as a child, with one drawn picture and one sentence per page. My first was a story about Frankenstein. My first serious short story as an adult was about a security guard who got involved with a battered wife.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Bringing the stories and characters that live and grow in my mind alive on the page.
What is your writing process?
My writing is very character-based, so I start with character profiles and a general idea of the plot. Sometimes, I can just take off writing with only that information, but usually, I will plot out the story, then proceed to the actual writing.
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
The Facebook groups. There are hundreds of groups you can promote your work in, and many with thousands of members.
What do you read for pleasure?
It's not an actual genre that I know of, but when I see a film that I like that was based on a book (and it's important that the book was written before being made into a film!), I will want to read the book, because the book will have so much more in the story, such as the thoughts of the characters.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
I'm in plenty of writers groups on Facebook, which are loaded with promotions for ebooks. I also surf Amazon and other services.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I have a day job, but at home I'm constantly on the laptop, either writing (I'm about to start my second "Cain" novel) or working on my website, www.nerdictionary.com. When I can get out with my wife, I enjoy movies and socializing with friends.
What do your fans mean to you?
My fans are my inspiration and my management team. They push me to keep writing, and let me know when I've done a good job.
What are you working on next?
Now that "Suga Cain" is complete and up for sale, I've already begun work on the second book in the Cain trilogy. It's going to be more exciting, a bigger adventure ... and you won't believe the cliffhanger! Stay tuned....
