Interview with Nicola Jones

Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in Gelligaer, where the story begins. I guess this has influenced my feelings toward the characters, knowing their surroundings and able to visualise their setting in a different era with added realism. Given me a new perspective on my home village, making it more special.
What are your five favorite books, and why?
I love books with mystery, adventure and complicated plots with great characters. The thrill of engagement with the characters, a real page turner of events that keeps you guessing until the end. Only to get to the end the plot thickens and the shock that it didn't quite end as you imagined it would.
What do you read for pleasure?
I will read almost anything that grabs my attention with a good synopsis and great cover. At the moment reading anything Spiritual and about Mindfulness.
When did you first start writing?
I only started writing by accident. This is my first book. It was when the story was shared verbally that I was encouraged by readers that it would make a great book. It truly is an extraordinary journey to tell.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
When I'm not writing or working....I love spending quality time with my family. I have a real passion for Genealogy and could spend all day stuck in research. My other passion is Spiritualism, and Spiritual Healing, gives me great satisfaction giving my time and energy to others in need.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
The first book I remember to have an impact on me was The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe. Truly sums up all the things required for me to get lost in my imagination of mystery, adventure into the unknown with lots of twists.
How do you approach cover design?
The cover of Walking in their Footsteps, was created by my brother who knew the story as well as I did. Therefore, it was perfect cover for the story. It is eye catching and makes it a real family affair.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
The greatest joy of writing, particularly for me was also not knowing the end. With it being my Dad's journey I too was intrigued to know what was coming next. My greatest pleasure I got from the story was sharing it to others, the feedback was pretty amazing. A lot of my readers purchased second copies, because they lent theirs out and didn't get it back due to further sharing and highly recommended reading. Couldn't ask for better recommendations.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
I read all my e-books on my Kindle.
