Interview with Nistha Verma

Published 2018-05-14.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in New Delhi, India. And it has had a lot of influence on my writing. The ideas, plots, characters and what not. There is so much to find here. Each person has his or her own story that can be converted into the novel. So yes my growing up in Delhi has influenced my writing.
When did you first start writing?
It was back in 2011. It actually started when one of my school teachers gave us a task of writing a poem. That's when I realised my potential of writing.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Well greatest joy of writing for me is that it is my love. And what's better than doing something in your life that you love immensely. So writing has never been a burden on me. Rather it has been a support in all my life's ups and downs till now.
What are you working on next?
I am working on two projects out of which one is a thriller novel and another is a collection of poems. A hindi and an english version of the poems will be there in the book.
Who are your favorite authors?
Well I am a lot inspired by Indian authors. Out of all Durjoy Datta and Savi Sharma are my favourites.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
When not writing, I spend my time reading. I have been reading longer than I have been writing. And I must say that it is one thing that has contributed a lot to my journey towards being a better writer. When you read things you try to understand them as they are. And that is what helps you when you shape your thoughts into words.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
Well I am more of a paperback type of person than the e-book type. But if I have to read any e-book I prefer my Android phone and the Amazon Kindle App.
