Interview with Lauren Zimmerman

When did you first start writing?
I began writing in my early teens. For me writing was an outlet for the overwhelming number of thoughts and ideas, dreams and possibilities, that I couldn't contain within myself.
What's the story behind your latest book?
My latest book is a part of a series. These books were inspired, almost demanded of me, by a series of visitations, contacts, and dreams from an extraterrestrial society. They actually gave me the storyline they wanted to see from me, as well as the cover art for the books.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
An attempt to enter the 'traditional' publishing world resulted in the publisher keeping 100% of the royalties from sales. My thought was to turn a 'negative' into a 'positive' by taking control of my own destiny, so to speak. I truly love the 'indie route' for it allows an even greater degree of connection with readers.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
The greatest joy of writing is to bring to life the overwhelming amount of stories, hope, and inspiration that fill me on a daily basis. The feedback from readers has been one of the greatest blessings of my life, inspiring me to continue doing my best. My goal, always, is to bring hope and inspiration to those who follow my work.
What do your fans mean to you?
Without the people who love and support my work it would languish, which goes without saying. My soul's desire would languish as well. The people who support my words are the people who support my heart, my soul, and my passion for spreading Hope.
What are you working on next?
Right now I'm working on a 'fiction' novel, based upon an other-worldly encounter. The topic is the possibility of Humanity being subject to the energy of a computerized mind control grid that is capable of monitoring human behavior and 'issuing' oppositional and counter-productive energy, energetically, into the set intentions and goals of Humanity as a whole. A fascinating exploration, even for me, into the unseen and who we really are here on Earth.
Who are your favorite authors?
Taylor Caldwell, without doubt, was always a favorite. Lee Child is currently someone who captivates my attention. And far too many others to list.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
In a single word ... Hope.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I spend as much time with nature as I can. The interaction of 'wild things' makes my spirit soar, brings a smile to my heart, and sometimes even brings me to tears.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
I do. It was actually a poem entitled 'Expectations, Seeking To Love More." Even at a very early age, the weight of expectations, from one person to another, seemed very relevant in understanding why relationships don't work.
What is your writing process?
Process ... I simply allow my inspiration to drive me. Ideas come to me and won't be silent until I voice them .. or put them on paper.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
I believe it was "Little Women," if memory serves me correctly. How the author was able to draw me into the story and involve me in the lives of the characters made me want to do the same.
How do you approach cover design?
I design all of my own book covers. They come to me in visions and then seem to simply unfold. A true blessing and joy.
Describe your desk
My 'desk' is wherever my laptop is. And .. there are many times that I simply take an 'old fashioned' pad of paper and a pen and sit on the beach and write until the driving inspiration is finally satisfied.
What are your five favorite books, and why?
"Personal Power Through Awareness," by Sanaya Roman. Her book helped me find the way to search deeper within myself. "Bird Tribes," by Ken Carey. His book opened so many doors in my mind. "Mists of Avalon," by Marion Zimmer Bradley. Her book took me on a journey that made me suspect the novel was not fiction, but fact. "Communion," by Whitley Strieber. His journey to understand his 'abduction' experience showed immense bravery as he dealt with his own fears and came out the other side with enormous understanding.
