Interview with Abby Ngina

What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
Knowing that I have a purpose to fulfill in life gets me out of bed each morning. I am not a wasted life and my talents and abilities are not inadequate. I believe that I was created to do something specific in a unique way. Understanding that purpose fuels my every move.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I write songs and have actually released a single (Mercy Triumphs) on cd baby, iTunes and other online stores. I love reading, listening to music and learning new things.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
I discover books through friends who refer me or simply by going online to find a book that talks about whatever it is that I want to learn to do.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
I grew up in Kenya and as part of our studies, writing composition was required. I wrote my very first story in grade school but I cannot remember it.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
The very first story that impacted me was about a girl who tried out for wrestling and actually beat boys when she was accepted into the team. As a result, she became ridiculed by the boys because they couldn't stand being defeated by a girl. The story made me feel pulled into another world to discover diverse stories that I couldn't find in my own world. I could get away from my own life with its problems and step into another person's story and celebrate with their accomplishments while also escaping my own reality. It was the first story to expose me to the power that lies behind the written word.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
I have a nook that I absolutely love.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in Kenya but then came to America on my thirteenth year. Having experienced life in both countries helped me discover that the only thing that stays stable through every change is my relationship with God. As I grew deeper in Jesus, I discovered a love that I could not deny. This love empowers me to do what I do.
What's the story behind your latest book?
I have struggled to belong and fit in for the most part of my life. Making myself what everyone would want me to be has always been the way of survival for me. When I became a Christian, I simply wanted to be a nice person that even God would like and hopefully accept. As time went on, I grew tired of constantly changing for others. I was so afraid that the real me wasn't good enough that I hid her away from everyone.

Everything changed the moment I discovered the love of Jesus. I realized that He wasn't another person on the list to please but that He was already in love with me. He had completely accepted me and saw the true me. This discovery began a process of God's healing that released me from the bondage of religion and ushered me into a passionate relationship with Jesus.
