Interview with Noell Mosco

When did you first start writing?
I started writing short stories (and illustrating them) when I was only eleven years old. I loved the feeling I achieved when I wrote something down on paper and finished it. To this day, I do a lot of my writing on paper first and then take time to convert it to the computer, which is one of my editing processes.
What's the story behind your latest book?
These Walls is something I started writing a loooong time ago. It's about love, life, learning to trust, growth and, of course, romance. The story line is something like this: girl likes boy, boy likes girl, boy and girl are best friends and girl is scared to lose their friendship by taking things to the next level. Boy is in a band, who hits the big time. Boy and girl lose their friendship over the course of life. Girl and boy are unexpectedly reunite years later. Boy and girl discover they still have feelings toward one another. Factor in some celebrity issues, gossip, rumors, major trust problems, lack of communication, other barriers and walls that are huge obstacles and the reader will find themselves engrossed in a roller coaster ride of never-ending twists and turns. This is an ADULT novel and is not recommended for readers under the age of 18.

I based the title of the novel from a song by my favorite band. It definitely hits the meaning behind my book and what can I say - they inspire me :)

My first novel, Unfamiliar Faces, is based on a story I started to write in my teenage years, which originally was written as fanfiction for a band. I changed a lot of it so that it was updated and current. I really liked the plot line of the story and wanted to finally give it a closing after I started it so many years ago. It's about teenage love, heartbreak, and friendship, something to which everyone can relate.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Escapism. No matter what happens to me throughout my day, I can escape when I write. I can be anywhere, I can be anybody, and I can do anything in my writing. Life is stressful, messy, loud, and unpredictable, but I'm in control when I get on my laptop or scribble in my notebooks.
What are you working on next?
My mind is always full of ideas, but my next project will be another novel. It's nearly complete (it's in the editing and beta reading phase now) and I plan on releasing it by the end of the summer. It's a novel about rock stars and it's also a little more grown-up.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
My full time job as a physical therapist assistant gives me great joy. I love the fact that I am able to interact with a lot of people on a daily basis. Not only am I able to interact with people, but I help people. The services I'm able to provide to my patients are life saving and help them return to a maximum level of independence. It's very rewarding to help someone learn to walk again after suffering from a debilitating diagnosis. Knowing that I played a part in their recovery is an emotion that's nearly impossible to put into words. Furthermore, I have bills to pay, animals to take care of, and I'm obsessed with traveling, all of which require a paycheck.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
One of my biggest passions, aside from writing, is scrapbooking. I love the fact that I can document important parts of life and make the memories pretty for years to come. I use each and every one of my vacation days allotted from my job because I absolutely love to travel the world. I've only been to approximately 7% of the world (according to my index on Trip Advisor) so I have a lot of ground to cover!
What do you read for pleasure?
My reading preferences follow along the same lines as my music preferences - anything and everything - however, I tend to lean more toward books the romantic persuasion. Some books in my permanent collection include: the Harry Potter series, the Eragon series, the Black Dagger Brotherhood series, the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants series, the Fallen Angel series, the Twilight Saga, and lots of VC Andrews books. Let's not forget that I'm involved in a monthly book club, where I read fiction novels recommended by lots of elderly ladies.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
I have a Nook Color, which they don't even make anymore. I'm thinking of getting rid of it though because my neighbor just got the Nook Glowlight and it's very cool. Plus, I had an iPad and can access my Nook account through the Nook app.
Describe your desk
Nonexistent. My desk is my lap and reclining sofa.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I know the process for getting published is heartbreaking and excruciating. A co-worker of my husband went the self-publishing route and it seemed like the way I wanted to go, too. It's been a dream of mine to see my works-of-art in print and maybe I'll get there someday.
What do your fans mean to you?
I hope to have a lot of fans! I am still learning a lot about the self-publishing route and all of the networking that it involves. Fans will be everything :) If someone likes my book and recommends it to a friend, and the process continues, it will make a tremendous difference in my life!
