Interview with NS Johnson

In high-school. My English teacher told me I wrote well.
What's the story behind your latest book?
"Crushers" is a novel about the dissolution of our culture and the corporate seizure of the media.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
When not one agent bothered to send even a form rejection upon submission of my manuscripts and carefully crafted cover letters
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
I have only begun
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Doing it my way.
What do your fans mean to you?
They encourage me in my darkest moments.
What are you working on next?
A novella about gifted Basset Hounds who upset a small, conservative American village when they learn to speak and drive a car.
Who are your favorite authors?
Ray Bradbury and Dr. Samuel Johnson, among a hundred others

My Bassets who want to go out for a walk
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Caring for my hounds, cleaning the house and reading
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
Usually Amazon, unfortunately. Perhaps Smashwords will cure me of this bad habit
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
I was about 7 years old, and it was brilliant.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
Probably "Winnie the Pooh."
How do you approach cover design?
I go to a professional with my humble draft
What do you read for pleasure?
Short stories
What is your e-reading device of choice?
I hate them all
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
None. Hoping Smashwords will remedy my dilemma
Describe your desk
2 PC desktop monitors plus keyboards, 2 desk-lamps, a MacBook to my right, printers to my left, Basset Hounds beneath my feet.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in Concord, Massachusetts, home to the Alcotts, Thoreau, Emerson, Nathaniel Hawthorne and Nathaniel Johnson
Will e-books outlast print?
Probably, but hope not.
What is your writing process?
You keep asking this inane question!
What are your five favorite books, and why?
Too much work thinking about that one
Is this over?
I hope so!
